Job Description Job Description As a subcontractor to our Prime Contractor (Leidos) Altech is a provider of IT support and associated services on the NASA - Advanced Enterprise Global Information Technology Solutions (AEGIS) program that supports all 10 NASA Centers; we are responsible for ITSM support, Network Engineering, Application Maintenance, Enterprise, and Mission System Administration (Linux). On this program we have an upcoming Linux SA role supporting the NASA Ground Systems Operations (NASCOM) at Marshal Space Flight Center in Huntsville

Overview - Altech has an immediate need for a Linux System Administrator to support NASA's Marshal Space Flight Center in Huntsville AL. This position will support NASA’s Mission Network supporting the International Space Station, JWST, Hubble, Artemis, as well as most NASA Satellite Missions. The AEGIS contract provides high quality integrated communications services for secure voice, video and data solutions and services to NASA customers worldwide.
Job Description
Senior-level systems administration support. Applies comprehensive knowledge of concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments. Performs work that requires comprehensive practical experience and training. Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, including virtual, cloud, as well as web servers, in support of business processing requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services. Develops and promotes standard operating procedures. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.
Primary Responsibilities
Ensure the day-to-day operation and ongoing support of Servers and Systems including event, fault, and performance management. Develop solutions to monitor, notify, and correct anomalies/alarms. Design the environment and software layers to provide for a reliable, scalable, secure and highly available Linux environment. Find gaps in the Linux environment and use analytical skills and knowledge of problem-solving methodologies to provide solutions. Lead efforts and work closely with systems administrators, database and application administrators/programmers, network engineers/analysts and outside vendors in engineering solutions or resolving problems. Act as a lead consulting and training resource for e-root architectural environment. Provide guidance to systems administrators, network engineers/analysts on the configuration of server hardware and architectures to meet application and service requirements. Attend meetings and conferences in support of the e-root architecture and Root Server Operators working groups. Lead IR&D efforts to identify new solutions, communicating solutions and progress with Senior and Program Management.
