POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title Chief Financial Officer Function Administration Department Finance Pay Range $150,000 - $180,000 Exempt, Full-time Reports To President + CEO

As the Chief Financial Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and efficiency of our mission-critical operations, directly contributing to the organization’s ability to fund life-changing programs. You’ll be a key architect of our financial health, ensuring every dollar is strategically allocated to maximize impact and drive sustainable solutions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated alignment with the organization’s mission and values. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA or Master’s degree preferred. 7 or more years of senior financial management experience. 5 or more years of experience in a senior leadership role. Experience in non-profit or government-funded organizations preferred. Knowledge of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding, Unified Funding Agency (UFA) compliance, and grant management. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking. Experience working at a quasi-government or system level non-profit organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team contributing to overall strategic direction of the organization and ensuring finance strategies align with and support organizational goals. Collaborate with other senior leaders to ensure integrated and cohesive finance strategies across all departments.
Team Leadership and Development
Participate in the hiring process for new employees. Guide and nurture team performance, ensuring continuous growth and development. Ensure that each team member has an up-to-date job description and regularly review for accuracy and alignment with organizational needs.
Financial Strategy and Leadership
Develop and execute the organization’s financial strategy to support short-term operations and long-term goals. Provide expert financial guidance to the President and CEO, Board of Trustees, and Executive Leadership Team. Lead the development of financial forecasts, identifying opportunities for growth and cost efficiencies. Assess and mitigate financial risks to ensure organizational stability.
Budgeting and Financial Oversight
Lead the annual budget process, collaborating with all departments to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Oversee all financial reporting, ensuring compliance with HUD and other funders’ requirements. Ensure proper allocation and utilization of grant funds, including monitoring restricted funds. Coordinate with the Grants Management and Compliance Director to ensure seamless financial oversight of federal and partner agency funding.
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, including HUD Continuum of Care and UFA requirements. Conduct financial audits and prepare for external audits, ensuring transparency and accountability. Manage financial risks, including cash flow, investments, and liability.
Operational Management
Supervise the Finance team, ensuring effective management of daily accounting operations. Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting processes. Ensure efficient financial management software and technology use for reporting and decision-making.
Strategic Partnerships and Board Engagement
Serve as a critical liaison to the Board of Trustees' Finance + Audit Committee. Prepare and present financial reports and updates to the Board, providing strategic recommendations. Cultivate relationships with funders, banking institutions, and other financial stakeholders to support organizational growth.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge of financial management, including grant compliance, HUD funding, and non-profit accounting. Clear and persuasive communicator, able to present complex financial information to diverse audiences. Proficient in financial management systems, including QuickBooks, Excel, and database tools.
Working knowledge of strategic planning principles. Intermediate to mastery level skills in Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Office, Access, Excel and Internet. Knowledge of leadership role, responsibilities, and effective practices including ability to train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate the performance of subordinates. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent organizational skills. Exceptional time management skills and ability to complete projects on time and within budget. Demonstrated ability to attend to detail accurately.
