Monday-Friday schedule, sometimes weekends if applicable. General Purpose: The Nurse Manager is responsible for providing leadership, positive role modeling, and critical thinking skills. The Nurse Manager provides direct patient care as needed and acts as a liaison between all areas: Emergency Room, Acute Care, Swing Bed, and Extended Care Services by effectively communicating and problem-solving. The Nurse Manager provides leadership and positive role modeling to facilitate staff development and teamwork along with taking on administrative work. The Nurse Manager is accountable for the completion of all essential shift duties for his/her position as well as those of the staff he/she supervises. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the schedule of both the ED department and the Extended Care Facility department. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Assist staff in completing work, act as clinical resource, delegate workload/make staff assignments appropriately & fairly. Ensure that all change of shift reports are conducted professionally and efficiently. Communicate effectively with clinic and emergency room medical providers to implement processes for physician’s orders to be correctly followed safely to optimize patient care. Anticipate patient care needs, staffing requirements, and assess/evaluate clinical & operational information. Provide leadership in the Emergency Department and emergency situations throughout the facility. Be accessible and influence the atmosphere of each unit positively. Must be knowledgeable of the general condition of all patients within the facility, following up on situations that warrant and provide hands-on assessment and care when indicated. Provide advocacy for staff and patients to ensure a safe and reasonable work environment. Assist with orientation for nursing students and/or new personnel to provide training and direction. Serve as a preceptor in the orientation of new staff (both permanent and contract staff). Identify problem areas in the nursing unit, such as understaffing, absenteeism, wastefulness, and process changes, and take corrective action in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and CEO. Monitor the use of supplies and equipment to avoid abuses. Requisition supplies as needed. Utilize hospital resources efficiently and effectively and make recommendations for waste reduction and improved performance of the nursing department consistently. Assist in preparation of work schedules and assign duties to nursing staff in the unit for efficient use of personnel. Enforce NCHD policies and departmental rules to maintain professionalism and good order in the patient care area. Hold staff accountable for ensuring they fulfill their job responsibilities. Oversee the delivery of optimal patient care in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer/DON, maintaining communication with him/her regarding issues impacting patient care. Approach conflicts factually and work through them positively. Maintain all certifications, required continuing education, and required competencies annually, along with attending any mandatory meetings/trainings for NCHD. Other Duties/Responsibilities: In addition to the daily responsibilities, a Nurse Manager is expected to assist the DON in any additional training and tasks that may arise, including but not limited to quality data collection, root cause analysis, process improvement, and performance system management. This individual is expected to follow all policies and procedures of NCHD and observe the rules and regulations pertaining to Corporate Compliance and confidentiality (HIPAA). The Nurse Manager will also be expected to pick up a minimum number of shifts to ensure they are well integrated within the nursing department and properly understand the patient flow of the ER and ECF. Supervisory Duties: The Nurse Manager will supervise the LPNs, CNAs, and other support staff on his or her shift. Education or Formal Training: Minimum education: Graduate of a licensed school of Nursing. BSN preferred. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC required. Experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.
