The Maintenance Mechanic performs skilled trade work including the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, monitoring, service and repair of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, and structural systems on the West Haven Campus. This includes general maintenance projects and event support for various activities. You will:
Perform skilled trade work including the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, monitoring, service and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems. Interpret building and safety codes, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams. Monitor operating status of campus equipment and respond to alarms. Respond to Facilities Department issues and identify the need for additional resources. Identify, locate, and diagnose equipment and building system malfunctions. Work independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision. Communicate and document the status of assigned work orders and projects. Develop and perform preventative maintenance on University buildings, equipment, and tools. Follow all applicable safety rules and guidelines and understand proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Work scheduled overtime and be on call for emergencies if required. Assure the proper operation of various mechanical machines and devices. Shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities, including but not limited to walking, bending, standing, stooping, stretching, climbing stairs and ladders. Incumbent must be able to lift and move equipment that may weigh up to 100 pounds. This position is considered essential. Essential personnel are required to report to work even if the University suspends normal operations and classes during inclement weather conditions. There are two open positions that will require the following hours: Sunday-Thursday 11pm-7:30am, and Tuesday-Saturday 11pm-7:30am. You need:
A minimum of two (2) years of general maintenance mechanic work experience. Must hold a valid CT state driver’s license. Must be able to use all necessary tools and equipment safely. Perform duties in adherence to training standards and supervisory directives. Strong working knowledge of residential and commercial building systems and equipment. Effective communication in English, both oral and written. Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets, instructions, manuals, signs, posters, and product labels. Maintain acceptable work habits including punctuality and reliable attendance. Work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Work independently and collaboratively with peers. Superior customer service skills. Maintain a neat, clean professional appearance and work area.
