Job Description

SUMMARY: Acts as a “project leader” along with customer from initial design phase – (APQP team, prototyping, etc.) – though the final production phases. Responsible for research, development & design of complex mechanical devices and controls requiring a higher level of experience and skill. Heavy customer contact & support. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Acts as a project leader (plans, develops, coordinates, etc.) along with customer from initial design phase – (APQP team, prototyping, etc.) – though the final production phases. Is available to customers to answer questions as needed. Travels to customer sites as required. Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications. Gives approval on drawings, Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), etc. Review Tooling Schedule to ensure timely movement of projects; handles problems as needed. Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others. Should have working knowledge of AutoCAD. Instructs Designer(s) and/or draftsperson(s) to assist with design and/or customer prints. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience (minimum 10 years in Engineering function in Metal industry). Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience working in Engineering Department for Manufacturing Company (preferably metals industry). Experience in customer service preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills (deals with customers and employees) Able to work well under pressure of deadlines Accuracy and detail orientations.
