About the Role:
Under the supervision of the Senior Paralegal, this individual will be responsible for performing paralegal functions and for assisting with daily and monthly legal activities with an emphasis on contracts, litigation, claims, and corporate matters. The successful candidate will be able to provide: (1) assistance in setting up and monitoring the contract process; (2) assistance during all phases of the claim/litigation process including calendaring, legal research, document filing and organizing case files; and (3) perform any other duties as requested. This is a hybrid role with ability to split time between remote work and our Columbus, OH office as agreed upon with management.
What You'll Do:
Support attorneys and paralegals with general clerical duties including but not limited to filing, scanning, faxing, typing, and processing invoices and requisitions Assist attorneys and paralegals with contract administration within our legal management system, OnSpring Communicate information to internal and external customers in a professional manner to ensure the contract process is completed in a timely fashion Assist with monthly reports as required Assist with Risk Assessments assignments for attorneys Answer, screen, and direct telephone calls and/or electronic communication Monitor legal department mailboxes for incoming litigation, claims, compliance, contracts and legal requests/questions Conduct pre-claim/litigation investigation, legal research and initial case assessments within our legal management system Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, etc.) Monitor tradenames, trademarks, and licenses for filing with state agencies Other duties as assigned
What You'll Need:
Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, obtained from a program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA); or a Paralegal Certificate from a program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) required Proven work experience as a paralegal
Excels in computer skills including proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe Systems Acrobat Pro
Communicates effectively and professionally (both verbal and written) with the ability to draft correspondence on behalf of attorneys with some direction
Learns and becomes efficient in function-specific software, such OnSpring, Quickbase, Confluence, and Archer
Possesses strong organizational skills with ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Executes tasks thoroughly and accurately in a fast-paced environment
Able to work in a high-volume environment while exercising good judgment to make decisions independently; also knows when to escalate matters accordingly
Demonstrates flexibility and champions change
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with others as a team player
Conducts all work in an ethical, honest, professional and confidential manner
Willingly takes on additional responsibilities Strong writing and communication skills along with attention to detail Strong PC skills. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience with Adobe Systems Adobe Acrobat software.
